Bharata Ratna C.N.R. Rao - Biography and Contribution to Science

Chintamani Nagesa Ramachandra Rao, more popular as C.N.R. Rao (born 30 June 1934), is an Indian scientist in  chemistry. He  worked mainly in solid-state and structural chemistry. He currently serves as the Head of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India.  He has authored around 1,500 research papers and 45 scientific books. He is the recipient of most of the major scientific awards, and is member of all major scientific organisations and is awarded honorary doctorate by more than 60 universities.

On 16 November 2013, the Government of India announced his selection for Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, making him the third scientist after C.V. Raman and A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to receive the award. He was conferred the award on 4 February 2014 by President Pranab Mukherjee in a special ceremony in the Durbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

India is Number 3 in the World Nano Science said Dr. CNR Rao

CNR Rao is working in nanoscience and technology for the last 20-25 years. CNR Rao is the Chairman of Nano Mission of India.  Many people are now working on nanoscience in India under the mission.  Because of targeted funding and creation of facilities in various parts of India, nano research has suddenly blossomed. It is nice to see that India is now number three in the world in contribution to nano research.
