Academic Programmes and Departments in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in India

Institute of Nanosciene and Technology
Mohali Punjab

M.Tech Programme at Jamia Millia, New Delhi

Nano-technology courses offer knowledge and training on the development and modification
of devices with atomic precision where the dimension of particles is less than 100
nanometers. It is an interdisciplinary subject that integrates the study of Bio- informatics
Bio- technology, Physics, Chemistry as well as other disciplines. There is a huge demand
for students who have done Nano-Technology Courses in a good number of industries and
laboratories in India and abroad. Being an interdisciplinary subject, students with a
degree in nanotechnology can find employment opportunities in a number of fields.

The areas where a nano-technologist can seek employment include agriculture, food and beverage, genetics, bio-technology, Space research, forensic science, environment industry and medicine.

The most important feature in the field of Nanotechnology that has attracted worldwide researchers
is the discovery of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs). Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are currently attractive
materials for a diverse range of applications because of their extraordinary mechanical and electrical
properties. Their application has already been demonstrated in field emission displays, nanoscale
electronic devices, biosensors and hydrogen storage mediums. The proposed applications of CNTs
are in micro-electronics/semiconductors, conducting composites, controlled drug delivery/release,
artificial muscles, batteries, field effect transistors, nano-lithography, nanoelectronics, data storage,
magnetic nanotube, molecular quantum wires, photovoltaic, electromagnetic shielding, cancer
treatment, thermal protection, nanotube reinforced composites, AFM tip, super capacitor, catalysts
support for fuel cells, polymer composites and sensors.

Keeping in view of the importance of Nanotechnology and the infrastructure available in Jamia, the
Department of Physics has started an M. Tech course in Nanotechnology in the year 2007. This
innovative Masters level course is designed so as to produce highly employable and knowledgeable
post graduates in a fast developing area that is already making major economic contributions,
impacting on products ranging from satellite TV through biomedical implants to sunscreens and
even car dashboards.
The course would equip graduates with the skills to make a successful career in the new industries
where reduced dimensionality plays a critical role in their products.

Amrit Manthan - Effort of Man or Effort of The Created Beings

Amrit Manthan is a symbol of effort of man or effort of the created beings in the nature created by God. In Indian puranas, there are many stories of people doing tapas and get the grace of God. Many of the rishis had the grace of God. Vedas are presented as  discoverie of rishis but still as a whole Vedas are given by Vishnu to Brahma. It is in amrit manthan that the created beings go and do a churning of the milk ocean. It symbolizes effort of man to work on nature and get useful things from it. But the work of man does not give only useful things. It gives things which create problems. Like the poison that came out of the churning.

Also, people with all intentions work on the nature. When evil nature predominates, people who want to promote good conduct have to come together, pool their resources and attack the evil doers. From ancient days till day, people are  looking for permanent victory of good over evil. But it is not happening.  Evil nature resurfaces, strengthens itself and starts troubling many.

Coming back to the main theme of this write-up, Hindus have to reinforce the idea that apart from God's grace through prayers and tapas, there is an alternate way of creating useful things. If one looks at the last 500 years, man made inventions have provided great comforts and increased longevity to human beings. Scientific research is a modern day tapas to understand nature and predict its behaviour. No doubt, many rituals and techniques of religion are found useful by even scientists. One can see the role of God, in Amrit manthan also. He was there as an advisor and also he himself has to take a major role as the support for the churning rod. May be God provides the support whether a human being asks or not. God is there to see that the creation process continues. So whenever a person is trying to do something and obstacles come in his path, God may be helping him.

Hindi Film Industry

In 1896, one of the Lumiere Brothers came to Bombay and demonstrated their movie equipment.

There are two important dates April 13, 1913 and May 3, 1913 in the Indian Film History. On 13 April, 1913, Dada Saheb Phalke showed  his movie Raja Harish Chandra in Olympia Theatre with to some known people. That day was Saturday. For that reason, that day is important day.

Dada Saheb Phalke released the movie in Caronation Theatre of Mumbai at May 3, 1913 for public viewing. A great response of audience for that film gave birth to Indian film industry.

Till 1930, producers focused on religious movies. Lanka Dahan (1917) & Kalia Mardaan (1919) were good hits.

Aalam Aara is the first movie with voice in the film. Producer Aardeshir Irani made this movie.

In 1935 Devdas with K.L. Saigal acting as here was produced.

During 1950s, three very successful actors emerged: Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar.

630 Hit and Super Hit Bollywood Films from 1951 to 2013 - YouTube Videos

Subsequent to them, the film industry had a super star in Rajesh Khanna.

Sholay became the highest grossing film.

Amitabh Bachchan became a super star.

New generation of heroes appeared with Shah Rukh Khan, Amir Khan and Salman Khan.

In the recent period a successful movie is collecting Rs. 100 crore.

Telugu Film Industry

Regional film industry also prospered in India. Madras became the center for films in South Indian languages.

Akkineni Nageswara Rao and N.T. Rama Rao emerged as two popular heroes for a considerable period of time.

Shobhan Babu and Krishna took over from the earlier superheroes. Subsequent to them Chiranjeevi emerged as the top hero. Now he is also not acting in films and the next generation is now acting. Junior NTR, a grandson of NTR with close resemblance to him is one of the popular actors now.

Tamil Film Industry

M.G. Ramachandran and Shivaji Ganeshan became super heroes of Tamil film industry. Right now, Rajinikanth is the superhero.

Kannada Film Industry

Raj Kumar was the super hero of Kannad film industry.

Dr. K. B. Hedgewar to Narendra Modi - A Milestone in the Dream of Hedgewar and Friends

Hedgewar was influenced by Hindu Mahasabha.

He questioned why India, the land Hindus came under foreign rule and rule of other religion people. He wanted to organize Hindus as a united group of people willing to fight for their nation state. He started Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh in 1925 with a small group of his friends.  The movement started by him is today a big national organization that in turn was responsible for large number of organizations working in different walks of like including education, agriculture, social service, history, trade unionism, and politics. Bharatiya Janata Party was formed when in Janata Party there was a problem regarding membership of RSS by party members who were earlier with Bharatiya Janasangh.

Narendra Modi, in 2014 Lok Sabha elections led BJP to a simple majority in Lok Sabha and thus for the first time in India, an opposition party which has no connection whatsoever with Indian National Congress came to power. A milestone is reached in the dream of Hedgewar as the organization started by him has the political power to support its activity and movement to unite Indians across the country into intense Nation loving people.
